Sanilac Co. Michigan | Shooting from the hip a bit, but when I split it's mostly to hedge my bet on the weather so I don't screw up and end up with a lot of my nitrogen washing away into Lake Huron or getting volitized off into the atmosphere.
Time of the year really means less than the wheats growth stage. If your first application goes on around the time the crop breaks dormancy, then the second really should be on at Feekes stage five or six, you know, jointing. That's about it where soft winter wheat is grown. Anything after that might do some good for specific quality concerns, but I don't guess it does much for yield. | |
