I worked in plant breeding while I was earning my masters. If you could force a plant to make more pods, the seeds would be smaller because there's only so much sunlight, water and nutrients available to the plant. The other factor is genetics. Plant breeders develop higher yielding varieties by selecting strains that put higher priority on developing seeds. But there's usually a tradeoff. Something else has to be sacrificed, like protein, oil or plant height. There's no magic bullet for making plants produce more yield.
