Depends on the crop, some need more some need less population to match the environment. Bigger yields use more and or more efficiently depending on situations. Crop or cover crop? They each need to be address a population balance. I can start off someone with vrt population easier than anything else. But ultimately you need to fine tune the population and incorporate the fertility and if possible manage the water all in unison.
