Joel, I always have and always will appreciate your input and studies to conquer this tremendous hurdle. I have come the conclusion that I feel the science is in on what needs to be done, but many aren't even trying something. As you well know, farmers are a curious creature. Unless it makes them money they probably won't change, even if not doing something will cost in the long run. I attribute some of it to short term leases and high cash rents, but for the most part, for lack of a better term, I attribute it to greed. Until science comes up with a definitive figure of what the top inch of topsoil is worth than I feel like all scientific calculations are skewed. That cost is a constant, in my mind that needs to be implemented into every calculation dealing with long term sustainability. Through my research, 5 ton of soil is about the thickness of a credit card over the surface of an acre. Again, thank you for all you do.
