Not all COOPs are bad or bloated. Just depends on how well the bylaws were written.
My parents send their milk to a very good coop. I know of some watershed organizations in Mn and Ia that seem to be going well.

Like churches and schools, some are run well, some are not, just depends.

Why roll over without a fight and let all that money end up in Silicon Valley?
Even a bloated coop would keep the money more local.
