Subject: RE: Banding Fertilizer

Iowa - Floyd County
We shoot for that 4” depth. The machine we had before the one we’re using now would band at 6”-8” deep, saw no benefit from putting it that deep. At 4” I feel it’s deep enough to keep from putting the seed in a “hot” zone and shallow enough that the plant can tap into it early in the season. I’ve looked at the magnums but I think they’re overkill for what I’m doing, if you want deeper placement then they would probably work great. I have heard they are expensive to run though, wear items need replaced often. We are 100% no-till with a lot of continuous corn over a lot of varying soil types, we’re also on 22” rows just to maybe give you an idea of what differences/similarities we have.
