Depends on your soil tests. If you already have high phosphorus and potassium levels because of manure usage like I have, a pop-up is all the is needed until sidedressing corn. That is the reason for soil testing in the first place. Corn uses very , very little Nitrogen until 3-4 collar.


In that scenario it's not a matter of would 2x2 work on a planter it's that you just simply don't need it
And then at side-dress time banding the nitrogen would be more efficient than running a broadcaster.

The universities have had charts for several decades showing that banding is just a more efficient way and you get a better crop response with less fertilizer inputs.
