Subject: RE: corn roots

Iowa
Could it be aluminum toxicity? The soil in picture looks a little more made up of gravel. Could it have a clay layer at bottom of root zone? I had some haney tests pulled on a field, along with the regular soil tests that had similar roots and the aluminum levels were 70-80ppm whether or not the levels are to be trusted it's made me question if it's an issue as some quick reading says aluminum hurts rooting in corn. Ph's ran from 4.8-6.3 but buffer ph in same sample was 6.5-6.7 . 20 average cec soil makes a guy think some stratification is happening. Going to try pulling soil test at 0-2", 2"-4", and 4-6" so see if we can learn anything new this spring.
