Subject: Planting Alfalfa And Pre-emerges Question

Hey Guys,

I live in Northwest Oklahoma where our biggest crop is Hard Red Winter Wheat. We have 30 acres that we are wanting to plant back to Alfalfa sometime this year. Last summer this field got very weedy with Crab Grass, Kosha, Pigweed, and other weeds because we were not able to get in to work it because it was to wet. These weeds all got big enough that they went to seed. We planted it back to Hard Red Winter Wheat this fall and right now we are letting the calves graze it. After we take the calves off in another Month, I thought about letting the wheat get big enough we can swath it for hay, then after that I thought I might plow it and get the soil prepared for planting Alfalfa this Fall. Another option I thought about after taking the Calves off this Spring is working the wheat up and planting Alfalfa this Spring. The question I have is If I planted Alfalfa this Spring what Pre-emerges could I use to take care of all the weeds this Summer and what rates of these Pre-emerges should I use? Also if you guys were in this situation which way would you go, Plant it this Spring or wait until next Fall?

Thank you,
