you must have amazing consistency of soil types, fertility, drainage within each field and field to field.
we still have to place hybrids "here" based upon % of crap, % of great, % of average, % of yield variability from year to year in each field. It helps that we are low tech and lack bulk seed on our planter.
I’m about as variable as it gets. 8-10 different soil types in one field.
I split planter everything and take notes in the combine and watch the monitor. Makes finding the ones that work easier. I have 5 go to numbers across 3 brands. I will plant 8 numbers in 2021. 3 main 3 new in decent quality. 2 new. |
