Subject: RE: Choosing hybrids

Central Indiana
Million dollar question. I take not much faith in any plot. Most plots have their own agenda. I'm a bayer guy, only because they have great products, and I have a wonderful salesman, agronomist, and district rep. Having a close relationship with all three make things work well. I normally do a replicated trial each year for them(10 hybrid and 60 to 100 ac). Most of the numbers I see 2 years before they come out, helps enormously with the decision on what to plant and populations. Even then it's hard to learn how it will work in every managment zone. Seems like every time I really figure out how a hybrid works the best, they do away with it. I've been working on them, trying to get breeding data and isolate what genes/ trait work better here. You'd thought I'd ask for nuclear launch codes!!! What works well here may not work well there, but 6357 and 6189 kicked butt this year. 6435 has been a good faithful for 5 years, but is on its way out.
