Subject: Creep feeding oats to calves on wheat.

Texas
So I finally got my big calves weaned. 500-650#ers. One was nursing a lot the rest just occasionally. I’ve successfully kept them apart from mamas with a barbed hot wire for 8 days now. Bags on mamas are about dry now.

They have triticale and turnips to graze (but stocked at 2HD/acre so I need to supplement for a month) There is an unfenced row of 2 year old wheat hay in the field they aren’t touching. A pile of cotton burrs. I’ve been supplementing all the cows oats at 5# a day and now it’s a pain to have to feed the calves too. How much do you think consumption might go up if I just fill a feeder and let them at it free choice.
