I would say that farmer here have experienced the same as you. I think here, cover crops are needed to replace the tillage that was historically used to dry the soil out in the spring.

Given the number of benefits noted and discussed on no-till and cover cropping, I will say though that the most common comment I get is some version of: I can't get over how much better my soils "carries" now.
