Kankakee, IL | Ecosystem markets are getting alot of press right now, and in the least, most farmers are starting to hear about them. I believe there is upside in the prices offered , hopefully. One of the concerns I have about any scaled adoption, or even acceptance, of carbon markets, by the previous conventional tillage farm, is that once they butt up against the initial obstacles, they may turn tail and never come back. Not saying that all have to participate to make a difference, just that many will try, and leave saying it doesn't work for them.
I wonder if ecosystem markets may have to offer more $ during this "transition phase" to keep farms involved and help move them through this challenging period. I'm through that with most of my fields, so it's straight ahead for me. Great insight within your post, I appreciate you sharing them.
