No reason to believe trumps plan wouldn’t work if we can stick with it.
Make it cheaper/easier to produce here and more expensive for them to sell there Chinese manufactured junk here.
Basic economics. Citizens only loose short term, including farmers.
Want to play fair? Adopt similar 1st world fair practice, humanitarian and environmental regulation. Then tariffs can go bye bye.
