Subject: Headlock training tips?

NW IL
We feed grain and silage to our breading age heifers in headlocks 2x/day. Free choice hay in pen round bale feeder. Probably 1-3 out of 20 each batch can't seem to figure out how to stick their heads through. They know there's feed there and try to lick up any grain they can reach on the ledge at the bottom. Leading through with a pail of grain and down to feed doesn't seem to work for these holdouts. They panic when they feel bars on both sides of their neck before ever reaching the feed.

Besides them not getting best nutrition, we AI with the headlocks, and it's a pain when they won't stick their heads in.
We never have more cattle than holes.

Tips or tricks?
