More Testing

Yesterday I did more testing - Of operating a drone without the SD memory card in the drone.

The earlier test was with the drone turned on, controller on, tablet on and the DJI Fly app opened and running.
The app was on the normal image you have when operating the outfit.
Did get a ’No SD Card’ warning.
Drone was resting on a table, not in flight. Took three still pictures and a few second video.

As I said in the RE above, the image access button below the on screen camera start/stop button was not on the screen.

After taking the four images, I looked in the Samsung table’s gallery.
The four new items were there.

I was surprised since I have felt you had to download them to the gallery.

Got to thinking, maybe the drone not in flight and/or being indoor without a good GPS just might have had a effect.

So did more tests.
First, No SD card in drone, controller and tablet with Fly app opened.
Did a indoor takeoff. Was close enough to the big window that I got a ‘Home Point ID’. Then took two images and a one minute video.

Landed drone. Left drone, controller, tablet with Fly app on.
Opened gallery on the tablet. The two still images and the video were in the gallery.

Turned everything off. Then restarted the tablet. Did not open Fly app.
Looked in gallery and images and video were still there.

Was surprised, figured they would be gone after the shutdown.

So did another test. As before, but with a SD card in the drone.
Again took off. Got the ‘Home Point ID’
Took two more stills and another one minute video.
Landed.
Left everything turned on, as before.

Without using the image download button on the screen.
Opened the table’s gallery.

The video was there, but the still images were not.

This half way explains something that happened last July.
I was a Courthouse Rock in Nebraska. Flew my Mavic Mini.
First took about a ten minute video. Then maybe 10-15 still images.
Then lost the drone.

After considerable looking I gave up and left.

But the ten minute video was in my tablet’s gallery. And the still images were not.

About a month later the drone was found by Ag Taker Ross from that general area in Nebraska.

Both the stills and video were on the SD card.
Video was about twice the size. Tablet's gallery 1.03 gb vs 2.83 gb on SD card.

Probably did not solve the OP’s problem, but learned a thing or two.

These result could, probably will, vary depending on the drone app, drone brand and model, brand and model of table or phone used.

Getting close to winter half over. Here at Dallas Center the sunset has moved 21 minutes later. 16:45 to 17:06
Latest sunrise was last sunday, 7:43. Has gained a bit, 7:41 this morning. Beat 7:42 by about two seconds.
And the sunrise point on the horizon has moved a bit to the north.

Come On Spring!!!
