Subject: LDL

Pittsburg, Kansas

If a person is really worried about LDL cholesterol really the only way to tell if any of it is "bad" cholesterol is to have an advanced test called a LDL particle count. In a regular routine lipid panel LDL is not actually measured. It is a "calculated" number based on the other actual measurements. In a particle count (which will cost more) the LDL is actually measured and grouped into different particle sizes. Native (regular size) LDL is essential to life as it is what carries not only cholesterol but also fats throughout our body for energy. Completely natural, normal and necessary. Then it goes back to the liver, after it drops off its cargo, to be recycled and used again to carry another "load" out to the body. But if it becomes damaged the liver receptacles do not recognize the LDL lipoprotein and it accumulates in the blood with no place to go. Then it becomes a problem as it is like a foreign body.

How does LDL get damaged? By oxidation. How does oxidation occur? Excessive blood glucose levels. Especially spikes. How does a person lower blood glucose spikes/levels? Cut down on the consumption of foods that spike blood sugar levels. Namely sugar and other fast acting carbohydrates that turn into sugar.

Not medical advice, just some guy on the internet with an opinion for discussion.

John
