N. IL | We don't have many cows or as much experience but we have been doing Inforce 3 and Scour Gard at birth/tagging. Recommended by people that I respect.
However, we did have a home-raised calf that was weaned Aug 1 (Mar born), drop dead of pneumonia in mid September. Showed no obvious signs, ate at the bunk at supper time, dead at 11 pm. They got vaccinations at castration in mid June. Calf came from a good cow, never off the farm.
Thinking we need to be more aggressive after Labor Day when we get first rainy, cool spell with another round. We don't feed Aureomyacin regularly but have the Bamba(?) in the feed ration. Vet thought Aureo might help but maybe not if the calf had a bug that was carrying.
We had something similar with a calf that we bought from a breeder 2 years ago. Vet says it's kind of common in feedlots.
I don't know. | |
