| When I was young - into my early twenties, at least - I would stay up late and sleep fine in the morning. Then, things changed. I have found that, with me, it is my brain that wakes me up. It has always been problematic to shut it down - especially at stressful times. There are times when it wakes me up and I can feel like I am tired and need more sleep. I have been taking a relatively low dose of gabapentin now for several years, and it works for me. I understand that it calms down the brain. No side effects at all, from my experience. It has been around for a very long time, I think. I'll take 300-400 mg when going to bed and another 100 mg when I get up during the night. As I said, no "hangover" whatsoever when I get up, and I do feel pretty well-rested.
I would say that, if you feel well-rested when you get up, that's the important thing. If not, gabapentin is, IMHO, worth a look. | |
