Strainers I was using last year worked so good that they plugged, building up so much pressure that our Wilger visual, ball flow indicators cracked. (You can probably imagine the mess that made.) So I don't think smaller screen strainers is the answer.
I think I'll edit my post to ask if there's such a thing as "self-cleaning" strainers.
Assuming you are using a piston pump, I believe the strainers need to be place before the pump to prevent this.
I’m still working on my system to keep liquid fertilizer clean, but I strain going into the tender, again going out of the tender, and lastly on the planter before the piston pump.
This way if the strainer on planter plugs, the pump pressure just drops rather than builds.
I agree with this. We normally had our fertilizer going through 3 strainers from holding tank to through the planter. Each one takes out debris and by the time its at the planter its clean and no problems.
