depends on if you want to just weight the whole pen, or get individual pens.

plan on a way to clean the used cow feed out, or they will be froze up for most of the winter. a way to raise it up or good pressure water hose, if you are putting it on a concrete slab.

My chute sets on 2 railroad ties, out at the edges of the frame I mounted the weigh bars on. I have a trench under the chute, that i can reach in with a shovel and clean it out.
originally I had the ties cross ways at the ends. that made it nearly impossible to clean out.

one thing I did wrong is put cross pieces on the weigh bar frame, flush with the back of the chute. should have put them in a foot or so. it gets **** packed in between that and the bottom of the chute.

I often sort by weight as we are working calves. that wouldn't work well with a pen scale. also with a chute scale, wormers or anything that dose by weight can be way more accurate if you glance at the scale.
