NorthWest Indiana | When I was growing up, had neighborhood haulers. No one owned trailers. Kind of weird now to think of those times. But everyone had a loading chute or the hauler had one with sides on the side of his straight truck. Anyway, Russell always had a metal eyelet on the forward center of the bed. Rope to nose ring through the floor loop and load and tie bad ones. He told me a story of one wild cow that would run up the ramp right through the side of his truck. Did that twice he said. Next time he hauled her was after a cold spell, he watered the floor of his truck! Cow ran in, fell down, couldn't stand, eventually laid down and rode to the packing plant. Always thought that so smart on his part! Keep her coming for grain, water the corral? Otherwise, had a steer ended up running for two months anywhere he wanted to go. Ended up shooting him. Should have done it the first week he got out. Happened before deer season, but during deer season he was seen South of us 4 miles then 2 miles North of us. Seemed to run in that line for some reason. | |
