Subject: RE: Row spacing for April beans?

WC Mn/Dakotas
I dont have any growers that have ever tested row spacing or adjusting total population. I do however write vrt seed prescriptions for various guys that are 15", 22", and 30" and I dont see any significant yield differences because of row spacing. Some years some beans get in very late April, usually mostly in May, sometimes in early June. Usually earlier yields better. They used to flat rate 160-180k, now slowly reducing total avg pops with some getting down to 115k with 80-120k variations between zones. Every field gets multiple pairs of learning blocks in good and poor zones +/- 40k of set pop. Again, not scientifically tested, but I see more variation in yield due to proper population and fertility per zone and earlier planting than grower row spacing or changing total populations based on calendar date.
