How were his yields vs his planned yields? If he has an average crop with average N applied or similar and didn’t have a bunch down corn or higher than normal dropped ears, fill them with hay and let them go so long as they know hot wire. Rough rule of thumb is 1 acre per head per month, but there are calculators to get a better idea of available forage out there.
