SW “Ohia”

Mink don’t handle captive rearing as well as domesticated farm animals. There have been several diseases develop in ranched Mink and escape into wild populations. They are also one of the most common routes for diseases to jump human-animal or animal-human.

Will the US mink population be culled? I don’t know. But it’s an ongoing situation.

Denmark is the largest producer of ranched mink in the world and the main global fur end-market/processor. It’s a significant portion of their economy. Most North American furs, both ranched and wild-trapped, end up there. The vast majority of finished fur products are sold in Russia and China today.
