Subject: First time merging corn stalks

This long string of warm dry days gave us the chance to make some big square bales of cornstalks which we rarely do. The corn was combined with a chopping head and the rows are on 20" centers. Thought we would try the hay merger to gather up 35' at a time and it worked great. Don't have all the final figures but we did about 500 big squares of cornstalks. It is very rare to have 10-15% moisture cornstalks in the fall.

The stalks will be used for bedding and possible filler for dairy heifer rations.
