A generic cheap hard drive will be more difficult.
Those that draw their power through the usb cord are going to be real tough. The iPhone doesn’t have enough power to run the hard drive.
A powered hard drive, you can get them connected most of the time with the right cords.
Now, for the music app to find the files on the hard drive, that’s another issue.
I’m an iPad person I don’t have a phone. I’m not sure what version of iOS you can run on an iPhone 6. Newer seems to be more flexible and capable of file manipulation like this.
