Subject: RE: Case-IH 6500 coulter-chisel

I owned a 6500 for seversl years. Had issues plugging until I arranged the twisted shovel,4", like how Brillion had theirs settup and pretty much eliminated the plugging. I could run it in 200 by corn stalks but that wad before BT corn without discing stalks.

Areas that gave us the most problems where the disc bearings. the flange would break where it bolted to the std when running on an angle. Bought hed Fafner bearings an pretty much eliminated that problem.

Other weak area is where the rock shaft bolts to the frame like previous poster mentioned. Had our rock shaft come off on one side & bend. Luckily a local machine shop had a 600 T press & was able to straighten it. Ours was an early model & only the top strap had a grease zerok. Though we kept it well greased grease never reached bottom side of the rock shaft. When I put it back together I drilled holes in the bottom straps & put grease zerks in. Maybe newer models had zeroks, if not they should have
