West Central Wisconsin | My brother-in-law and I were making a short drive towards each other during Wisconsin's muzzle loader hunt. Shortly after starting our drive I kicked up a nice buck quartering away at 75 yards. I pulled the hammer back and "click", nothing. I pulled the hammer back again as the buck was now going up a logging road straight away about 100 yards. I aimed at his head and down he went. My brother-in-law met up with me as I was approaching the buck, lying on it's side, stretching it's legs out as if to run. He asked where I hit it because he, nor I, could see no blood. I finished him off and it wasn't until I went to cut off the antlers did I discover my .50 slug had hit the base of the right antler, traveled under it's hide, and then exited out it's right eye. My shot had only stunned it! | |
