In 2013 I was scouting corn and came face to face with a monster buck, damn thing pawed at the ground at me and all I had was a pocket knife. I eventually yelled loud enough that he bolted. Fast forward to fall and the neighborhood hunters were all talking about a massive buck that nobody could get to. He always stayed out in the fields, wouldn’t go to the woods. He stuck around for five years and nobody got him, he must have died of natural causes. Fast forward to the past couple years and some big ones have been harvested in the neighborhood. My cousin got a 230 pound doe on our farm and there were at least three 12 pointers taken within a mile of here. There are a few big ones that wouldn’t go near a woods though. Like that mindset is genetic. That buck definitely passed on his genes.
