South Central MN
Since I don't have a no-till drill the rye following silage gets broadcast and worked in with an IH 490 disk but mine has 22" shallow concavity blades, and also set to run no more than about 3" deep which it rarely does on firm ground. The rye still grows nicely behind it, since it is set up more like a VT unit I'd bet the seed "floats" up on the dirt and ends up rather shallow.

Rye is not far off from being a weed, takes a lot to make it not grow. (Would do a lot more of it with a drill but $$ you know...)
