Subject: JD3955 chopper problem

Mundarlo,NSW, Australia
When I get a blockage in my JD 3955 chopper (due to damp lumps in the windrow) the metal detector engages without neutralizing the gearbox, it usually (but not always) disengages when I reverse the fed rolls (normal) but they keep reengaging when I try to feed the material back into the machine, I am 100% sure there is no metal or soil in the grass, but am at a complete loose to understand what is going on. Unless one of the feed rolls is moving over and rubbing on the housing , but I don't think so.

I have been using this machine and its predecessor for 24 years and contact chopping on this particular farm for 15 years and this the first time it has happened.

Any ideas or advice would be appreciated, thanks
