NW IA | You’ve made me think I should try a little more diverse mix on my oats companion crop.
I put 7 pounds per acre of Hi-Nitro alfalfa on with an end-gate seeder after drilling oats. Then heavily apply bedded pack manure after straw harvest.
Will try to add pics of this years effort.
The top picture was taken on October 5, ten days later than the bottom picture.
At this point the plan is to spring terminate and NT corn in '21..
I posted some time ago re last years plow-down. It came in so thick this spring that I left it as a hay field. @ $6- 6.25 a bale and 4 cuttings later (timely rain and none that damaged a single cutting) it will be my highest net/acre running away.
