Texas
Your story sounds a little like what happened to a good friend. He had rented and farmed the same piece of land for 50 years. It had changed owners at least once. An investor in another state bought it up. A scoundrel, and that’s putting it lightly, was caught stealing from my friend on that same land late one night. His excuse was that he was there to start take over the lease and needed to CLEAN the property up. My friend didn’t call the police.

Next thing you know, my friend gets a notice in the mail that his lease had been terminated and that a better offer on the land had been made. The thief never came through on renting the land. So, the owner contacts my friend asking if he’d please be interested in farming the land again. My friend said YES but that a new lease agree be written up and that he’d only pay the same amount as before. The owner agreed.
