Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Had that exact situation on an old Deere 4400. Clutch would engage and then "let go". Shut off the switch and try again. It would again engage for a bit and then disengage. My problem was a wire that was partially worn through. Once I found the worn spot and repaired it everything was fine.
On that combine it was possible to use some bolts to bolt the clutch assembly together to keep going. I made some special bolts out of redi-rod that had continuous threads. I could install them into the clutch and run some jam nuts down the threads to lock the clutch together. I carried these with me in case I had a failure again. Fortunately I never needed to use them.
The worn wire rather puzzled me as it should take more current to engage then to remain engaged but it was my problem. |
