| We had a hopper cone locally built in 2013. It steep comedy and much heavier built than commercial units available at the time. Have a 2u' 12,000 bu bin that we set on it. Steel & labor to build was about $16,000., not including bin., fans, electrical, or concrete. Has drilled shift foundation.
We used the bin 1 year with sweep before the hopper bottom was built. I much prefer the hopper though was expensive. With steep slope first corn in is first out. No need to run a sweep every few days or put a dry core in like on a flat bottom bin. Ours feeds a Top Dry. We start drying as soon as have enough corn in hopper to fill TD. With 12 row head can usually run till 9-10 pm & hopper is full. Its usually dried out by 4-5 am next morning depending on corn moisture.
We do try to have dry, 16-17%, corn left in field to fill the hopper at end of season. It does have a partial drying floor & 4 1.5 hp fans in the cone & have no problems keeping corn into winter with it. It doe have a separate truck unload auger so have the option of unloading it direct,y to trucks or thru the Top Dry.
