My 2 cents is 'depends'. What do you want it to do? 500 or 10,000 bales a year? pretty much all major baler mfgs offer a 'all out brute', and a more economical STO type machine. .......less money tied up in a machine, but probably a little harder on resale... opposed to one with max capacity and bells/whistles. I've said this before, a few thousand bucks and your time will get your old baler 'up to speed' most of the time, with new belts, bearings, chains, go through the pickup... and a few odd sprockets. Most of this can be aftermarket sourced...And saving a little off the JD store.. But that's how i roll.
Vermeer is my choice of round baler. They offer a 'rancher' series type baler that does what you need, I don't know much about them, but they sure look similar in design to my old 'j' baler fleet.. Supposed to be a more economical level baler.
