| I would think the error is happening because the resistance of the potentiometer is out of a desirable range for the monitoring system.
Sometimes, the ohm values of a potentiometer are given by the markings on it. That is the very first thing I would check... do that with a simple ohm-meter. If that checks out, then plug it back in and see how the monitor reacts to it when moving it manually by hand. Try to recalibrate at a spot where the error goes away, and see if the indicator starts showing a position change when it is moved. If the monitor shows it moving, then we are most likely dealing with an arm geometry problem. If there is no change, then I would suspect something going on with the wiring.
