SW Ohio | I think it depends some on how good your auger platform is. Personally I'm completely happy with the job my JD does. However I have a friend that runs gleaners and he told me the gleaner auger platforms were junk from the get go, but the drapers were light years better. As another poster said, hard to find an auger over 35', so combine capacity drives the draper somewhat.
Don't think for a minute that marketing hype doesn't play some role as well. "The salesman says everyone else is running a draper, I don't want to be the last one in the neighborhood running an auger"
But I'm with you, I don't see any improvement on shatter loss from the cutterbar with a draper. I also cannot justify the increased cost of a draper on 650 acres of soybeans each year. | |
