McCanna, ND | Finding a 45’ auger head is a bit of a challenge for a red combine. Draper feeds much better, I run a air bar because we harvest a fair amount of edible beans. Air bar paid for itself in a few truck loads the first year I ran it since the beans where dry and short. In short/thin soybeans air bars help, not as much benefit if any in tall beans. I think the air blast helps put pressure on the plants when they are being cut, and they get off the sickle ASAP.
The hydraulic top link on the macdon literally lets me put the points of the guards on the ground, the float springs keep the head from digging dirt. The auger heads we came from you wouldn’t even dream about that on the best day and field. | |
