I had a slat break a rivet on one end so I removed it and tried running without it, but the wide gap where the slat was missing just put extra pressure on the next slat and caused more problems. Might work if a person was only doing half loads. I ran across a flat chain apron on Craigslist for a gehl spreader (which is wider), I bought it from a scrapper thinking I could grind off the rivets and use the slats as the slats were the right length for the T bar chain in my Gehl spreader. But when I got home and compared the slats, the T bar slats were much heavier so I didn't mess with it.
