I would never use used engine oil. Why put potential dirt in there? I used new oil.
After draining the old oil, the entire inside lining of the engine is still coated, so I don't think a smear of old oil on the O-ring is gonna make one iota of difference to hygiene!
I hate John Deere filters..Grrrrrrrr!
