Subject: RE: Yellowstone trip ?'s

We went in Aug of 2015. We stayed in park at one of the hotels in park. You have to book them months in advance though. The park is very large and it takes awhile to get from one part to another, and also to get in and out of the park. It could take 1.5-2 hours to get from the west side of the park to cody. Also "animal jams" where animals block the roads can lead to delays

You shouldnt drive in the park after dark due to large animals on the road. Imagine hitting a buffalo on a dark road. The crowds can be very large in the summer. So by staying in park you can get up early, go see some of the attractions, then in the middle of the day when crowds are the worst, go back to your room and rest for a bit, then in late afternoon go back out as the crowds are leaving. We were able to see everything we wanted in Yellowstone in 3 days this way

Take a cooler with stuff for lunch and drinks in your vehicle. the only restaurants are where the hotels are, and you maybe looking at an attraction at lunch time 45 min from the nearest restaurant. There are lots of places with picnic tables to pull over and eat lunch, and usually with a good view of nature. We would do that for lunch, and eat a good meal at supper at one of the lodges.

It gets cool at night at that time of year, it was highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s first week in Aug

Also when your in the area, spend at least one day in the Grand Tetons, very beautiful. We stayed one night in a cabin on Jenny Lake there, expensive but watching a full moon set over the tetons was amazing.
