Subject: JD 9xx0 straw walker gear case removal

Faunsdale, AL
I should have looked up this old thread.......
https://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=635174&Display...

but I went through a learning experience the other day trying to get this gear box off the straw walker crankshaft to replace the bearing behind it in the side of the separator shell.

I don’t know if mine was locktited on but even pulling from 4 of the holes that hold the box together, I broke the aluminum housing.

At that point I had to get it off somehow, so I disassembled the gear case and immediately saw the holes in the gear that are used to pull it. There is a bearing in the way but it wasn’t too hard to remove. The gear was very tight, but a 7/8 coarse thread bolt pushing brought it on off the shaft.

New box complete $1479........I’m going to replace case and seals for about 1/3 of that. Hope that’s a good decision!

Should have relied on AgTalk instead of the JD shop manual!
