I think the future to stay profitable is going to be in the specialty crop, organic, etc.  Also will have to diversify into different crops.  



I'm all for growing other crops, but finding profitable and sustainable markets for them around here is a major obstacle. Farmer's market type of stuff is saturated. Not much reason to try to pursue crops that have little to no demand in the region or that are beyond reasonable trucking distances. Also not a good chance to find a dependable crew around here to do manual labor that some crops would need.

Not that it's what I want, but we aren't far from the time when people won't be necessary to produce food.
