Subject: RE: Is supply management sustainable?

Rudolph, WI
Seems the US has the opposite of a quota system. Producers here are encouraged to produce at full capacity at all times, because if prices get low, there will likely be subsidies paid, in addition to already subsidized crop insurance, and those who produced the most, get most of the money, regardless of oversupply. With all of the dairy farms that quit around here the last 2-3 years, and low crop prices, one would think land would be a hot potato, but I have never seen as much competition for land around here, ever, in my 51 years. Big $ paid again this year, even after Sonny said don't expect any more for 2020 after the 2019 bailouts. Which system is more socialist, quotas or subsidized production? Are either sustainable? Take away FSA office and land prices and rent would probably drop in half overnight, but real value would be discovered a few years later.
