We have a store locally that sells all kinds of outdated packaged and canned food for cheap prices. And a lot of the folks packing that stuff out are not poor folks either.
But once something is opened, the "use by" date no longer applies. Then it is when it stinks or get moldy.
Those dates cause a lot of good food to get tossed by fussy folks like my wife.
