Oddly, if I’m not in a rush and there’s no pressure or real miserable work involved those kind of screwups, or should I say adventures, can be kind of interesting and fun. It gives a person a reason to go out of their comfort zone a bit and do things he wouldn’t normally do. With the OP’s good natured humour I’m sure there was some interesting conversations on the long trip home too. Lol
