Subject: RE: How to kill willows ?

Middlesex County, Ontario
Edit: found a video. I basically do this. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G8HMarEOHaI

I go around with a hatchet and a handheld pump up bottle of 1/2 roundup, 1/2 water.

Chop into the bark and spray roundup on the cut. You want to get roundup just under the bark where it can trans locate. This is the perfect time of year to do it as nutrients move down into the roots. A tree can’t regrow from dead roots. I try to get 3 or 4 chops per stem.

Dilution is just to get the product liquid enough to move through the spray bottle.

I haven’t tried other products. Tordon is supposed to work better.

This is how forestry services thin forests. They have a little backpack and finger squirter instead of a spray bottle, but do the same thing with the hatchet.

Some people drill into the trunk and pour round up in the hole. The inside of the tree does not move things around. Just below the bark is where things move around.
